USING LICENSED MOVERS
Licensed movers are recognized by your state and by the US DOT
(Department of Transportation). Licensed movers frequently have records with
the better business bureau, and are required to have insurance. Hiring a
properly insured licensed mover eliminates many of the risks involved in your
move.
For example, if a licensed mover gets injured moving your possessions,
and they are properly insured, the insurance should take care of their medical
bills. If a licensed mover damages a house or apartment during a move, they
are
insured and should pay for the damages. If anything happens to the vehicle,
the movers are responsible for all damages.
Most importantly, if their is damage to any of your possessions, licensed
movers are insured to pay for the damages.
There are two levels of liability
that licensed movers are required to offer. The first option is "full value
protection". Under this option, items that are destroyed, lost or damaged
will be either repaired, replaced with similar items, or a cash settlement will
be made to repair the item, or an amount for the current market replacement
value. The amount this level insurance costs varies by mover and varies by
the deductible level that you choose.
Under the second liability option, the
mover is resonsible for no more than 60 cents per pound. If you choose this
second option, you can choose to receive more money per pound by purchasing
additional insurance through the mover's insurance policy, or through

Citimove does not have the resources to investigate movers and determine
whether they have valid credentials. Instead Citimove looks to the community,
to people just like yourself who are submitting reviews, to determine whether
movers are reputable or not. Citimove provides the format for movers to enter
their license information. If a mover does not enter this information, it
should be assumed that the mover IS NOT LICENSED or insured. Citimove
clearly has disclaimers in it's terms of use that it is not responsible for
any information posted by the customer or mover. Even if a license is
provided, it is your responsibility to look up their information and see if
they have provided a valid license. Citimove aims to provide you with the
means
to make an informed decision, the rest of the choice is yours.
If you have a building that requires licensed and insured movers, or you
are wary of the risks involved in determining which movers to choose on
Citimove, Citimove's affiliate site MoveSelect may be a better option for you.
MoveSelect takes the time to check the background of the movers on their site
to ensure that movers are licensed and insured. MoveSelect also offers
customers reviews just as Citimove does.
